Guillaume Fabre // Winemaker and Vineyard Manager

Born and raised in the southeast of France -- in the city of Narbonne -- Guillaume is a 6th generation winemaker. He pursued a major in enology and vineyard management at the Lycée Charlemagne in nearby Carcassonne, and graduated with his degree in 2001. After 24 years in Narbonne, he moved to Bordeaux. While both regions are famous for their wines, they are also very different from each other.  Guillaume’s extensive experience and education allowed him to transition easily between the two regions, despite the different climates, soil types, vine illnesses and more. But life is full of surprises. Not convinced that he wanted to make wine in Bordeaux, he took a harvest internship at L’Aventure in Paso Robles, California.  He fell in the love with the soil and terroir. As a result, a 3-month harvest internship turned into 6 months and an offer to be the Assistant Winemaker. While still juggling a full work load from L’Aventure, Guillaume meticulously planned for his own passion project and in 2007, Clos Solène was born.  Then in 2014, impressed with the quality of their vineyard, Guillaume partnered with Blair and Simone under another new label, Al Lago Wines.  He brings with him a lifetime of experience, the guidance of the generations before him, and an unwavering passion to create unparalleled wine.

Aurélien Crouzet // Assistant Winemaker

Aurélien was an intern at L’Aventure Winery in Paso Robles, California during Guillaume’s very last harvest at the winery.  As Guillaume worked increasingly alongside Aurélien, the more impressed Guillaume became by his strong work ethic, unwavering enthusiasm, and deft skill.  He knew then that Aurélien would prove to be a valuable asset to his team.  In May, 2016, Guillaume “brought over” Aurélien from France to join his team as our assistant winemaker. Not only is Aurélien an old family friend, but he comes from a wine-business family in Bordeaux. Aurélien understands the hard work it takes to be a winemaker and a grape grower.

Samantha Mogull // General Manager

A native of San Diego, Samantha had the benefit of being exposed to diverse cuisines and cultures from a very early age. Inspired by those widely differing flavors, she formed a deep curiosity for all things taste, which naturally brought her to wine.  Her enological pursuits included several trips to the sleepy town of Paso Robles, where she not only found beautiful wines, but also discovered her love for the scientific art of winemaking itself. Samantha decided to pursue this dream and earned her bachelor's degree in enology from the prestigious California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo.  She joined the Al Lago team in December 2016, in anticipation of opening the tasting room on the urban wine trail known as “Tin City”. She enjoys all aspects of the winemaking process from vineyard to consumer and aims to cultivate a sense of inclusivity no matter the level of knowledge of our guests.  She specializes in educational tastings, both dispelling the confusion around and celebrating the beauty of the complex beverage that is wine.
